FMP - Update #2

I think it is about time that I give you an update on my Final Major Project.

  1. I finally got some material for my jacket, it got some Soy Jersey, instead of Bamboo. Warning to you all can't recommend purchasing sustainable material from ECO EARTH FABRICS, it just too much hassle.
  2. I got a new bias binder maker, but it's not easy to use with the Bamboo Silk.
  3. You know how I said that it would be quicker and easier to use chemical dyes? Well someone having laugh and it's not me! The bamboo silk, was fairly easy to be fair. But the Soy Jersey, has caused me sleepless night (literally) - I think I have re-dyed it 4-5 times! It has come out the 'right' colour as a initially wanted, but now I'm not sure if it's dark enough or not. Although after starring at it for the best part of 3 hours I decided to leave it - cause the only other option was to dye it black (its navy blue at the moment). The thing is, black just a little bit too black, or should I say dark? Hope you know what I mean!
  4. The photoshoot, I've been in contact with the V&A and they do a special deal for students! So now you don't have to lend me £8000, btw, no one offered! So I'm currently trying to figure, when these bloody garments will be finished to I can get on with it. I'm still thinking about filming/shooting at Wendover Woods. It's always good to have a range of places, because even though you imagine that something great is going to turn out, it just might not, considering my luck!
  5. Originally my FMP deadline was the 18th of May, but now its been moved to the following Friday, so the 25th! Heh, definitely wouldn't have been able to hand it in on Friday! Thank God for extensions!
Thats all for now!

Easter holidays are over and I've had my first week back at college. Had a bit of a rough start to the week, but hey ho, might as well get back to everyday life again.

On Friday 30th March I turned 18, didn't make a big deal out of it, but my family and a friend came over to celebrate. Ended up spending a few hours at the hospital in the morning as I cleverly slammed a car door on my thumb! Ups! Then went to college did a few bits and got picked up by Mum, Dad, Martin and Mette. We had a really nice evening at a pub in London that specializes in pies - and I really wanted a good traditional English meal. After that my Dad had planned a trip to Camden as he had found a gig, so we could hear some music, unfortunately that cancelled last minute which was a shame, so we ended up just wandering around Camden, as none of us had ever really been there before.

Spended Easter on family marathons (as in visiting every family member, now the Danes where over, but also to celebrate me, I served them all "kage og boller" (cakes and rolls) and in the second week I did the dreaded 'Hjemmeopgave' from the Danish Design School and I'll know the results on 9th May. The Hjemmeopgave is a project that the Danish Design School gives you as a part of the application process. As it isn't the norm to have done what I have done - college, as previous experience, so they do it so they have an idea of the level that you are at. So fingers crossed and I'll hopefully the invited to an interview.

Soon I'll give you an uni update as a lot of things has happened lately.

Anyway I'm back and ready to rumble!

FMP - Toile #2

StepbyStep2.jpg
Last weeks update on my toile. I was trying to explain to my auntie, uncle and cousin what exactly a toile is - and my uncle ended up saying prototype, because that was a word that he could relate to. So just incase you didn't know what a toile is, you might have a better idea know.
Hope the picture are pretty self explanatory, if not feel free to ask questions! These days, these pictures makes sense to me, but I understand if you're not familiar with making garments, those pictures means nothing to you! ;)

FMP - Toile #1

StepbyStep1.jpg

Just found this brilliant app on App Store called Picture Collage Maker Lite, where I just made the above collage, so much easier than trying to do it on Photoshop, as it has templates and its easy to add or delete photo frames!
And when you select which photos you want to use you can just click "auto refill" and it chooses the photos for you! Absolutely brilliant!! Its going to save me so much time!
What do you think? Yes or no?

Anyway back to the images, I have started to toile one of my designs.
I've been thinking a lot lately about sharing my college work, as someone who is also applying to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts Schools, Architecture, Design and Conservation School of Design, also known as the Danish Design School, said that she didn't want to post her illustrations, as they are the main focus in her portfolio, she's scared that someone might steal her work!
I mean is that totally bonkers to think like that? Perhaps I'm a bit naive when it comes to things like that, I enjoy sharing my work after all. On the other hand I don't have far as many readers as she does, so perhaps I can't really put myself in her shoes, cause I've got no clue what its like and she is hugely admired by her readers... and keeps coming with statements, such as you: I'm really flattered that you find my illustrations inspiring, but remember to find your own personal illustration style.

All I'm saying is don't steal my work! And if you do, you better not be applying for the same course at the same university as me!

Simply sharing the love here! ;)

Hope you are having a great weekend, primarily spending mine on sleeping, looking at blogs and doing some homework.

V&A

Went to the V&A on Friday with my family straight from college, which was good. There's nothing like hanging out at a amazing museum on a Friday night, were all the Londoners go to hang and have a drink with their friends, the lounge/trendy music in the background as you're moving around the museum. The main reason for going was to get some more inspiration for my FMP, I was searching for colours...

Excuse My Absence!

I'm a great blogger!

Early Wednesday morning I was finding myself feeling sick... and ended up being sick most of Wednesday. So from Wednesday to Thursday I was sick, weak and feeling sorry for myself. Friday I got back on my feet and went to college, got picked up from college and then the Deans and I went to the Victoria and Albert museum for a couple of hours and grabbed a sandwich/toastie at Pret A Manager. It was a good Friday and a tiring one.

I realize that it has been ages since I have updated you on any of my projects as for Joy Division and my FMP, so that will be coming up ASAP.

P2030539.jpg
What's written in the centre was referred to me. On the 3rd February I started making mini portfolios for the universities that had requested one!
P2010518.jpg
Going back in time on the 1st February my wall area looked like this. Most people have mood boards hanging as inspiration for their FMP, but as I am on a 'save the planet'-mission I'm refusing to print out different images for each week! The bizarre grey cotton and calio thing, is a half a dress...

Good weekend out there!

All photos taken by me, with a Olympus X-1

So I finally finished the Alexander McQueen jacket, as I have said before it turned out to be a lot more tricky than anticipated, but I'm really pleased with the result - except for that awful material! Its done, its sit funny, but that because the mannequin is too small for the actual size of the jacket, but my tutor and I still have a funny feeling about how it sits.

This week in Construction I will be focusing on fabric manipulation and start on a Japanese pattern from the Pattern Magic 2 book! Its always good with a challenge.

The fabric manipulation is mainly to boost my portfolio, as I haven't got any images from previous fabric manipulation sessions and the college isn't the most organised one in the world...

I know I haven't been really good at updating this week, but I'd rather show you finished pieces instead of the mess of a step-by-step.

Now time to watch Stephen Fry: The Secret of the Manic Depression, it watching it in relation to the Joy Division project, as there are theories about Ian Curtis having bipolar, although at the time he was only ever diagnosed with epilepsy.

FMP - Kimono Part Two

P1110086.jpg P1110094-1.jpg
Just a quick one before heading to bed! So here is the whole kimono completed in lovely calico! Reasonably pleased with the end result - a good thing to do for research, so its also hands-on instead of doing computer research all the time.

Unfortunately I didn't complete the McQueen jacket as I had hoped for, on Friday, turned out to be a lot more tricky than I had planned for. Ouch - might have to look at my time management! Now it even turns out that a third of the instructions are missing! Plus the fact that I haven't cut out the sleeves! Doh, get your head in the game Miss Ford! But the good thing is that since I had the experience from making the above kimono, the rest of the instructions aren't needed, because I know what I'm doing! Whoop, whoop!

Any thoughts on a Sunday evening? (Or Monday?)

Hope you have had a good weekend! More exciting than mine...

Although the best feature of today was the excitement of my Dad, when we talked about how to layout a portfolio! He was literally jumping and dancing of excitement - yup that's my Dad! Great to get some positive energy into this rather gloomy January...

Thursday! Weekend is approaching and its needed.
The pictures are of a kimono that I made last week, not my own design though, its a simplified version of an Alexander McQueen kimono. It's possible to download the pattern of Showstudio, if you want the link, please let me know so I can find out, as it was my tutor that got it for me.
These are just a few detail pics, I'll show you some full-scale of the jacket later on.

This week I have currently been working on the actual Alexander McQueen kimono, which is turning out to be a bit tricky, but I'm up for a challenge, I'll show you when its done.

Next week I'll hopefully be getting some responds from my Printed Accessories tutor, regarding if we are going through with sales of the scarfs - done 'privately', instead of through college. So please let me know, if you are interested.
Which reminds me that I still haven't posted a picture of the scarf that I gave my Mum - I try and get that up during the weekend.

CS - Grey Gardens Final Garment Illustration

Finalgarment-1.jpg So here's the illustration that I promised to post, I don't really like doing fashion illustrations as its not really my strong point, although I do enjoy drawing... Any thoughts, to my otherwise simple illustration? The actual outline has been done by my dear hands, the backdrop and the image has all been done on Photoshop.

The madness is over... I handed in my Grey Gardens project today and the past week has been pretty rough with trying to get everything finished for today, even ended up doing my Power Point Presentation on the bus on my way into college this morning!
Living the wild life of a teenager, naah not really...
I am beyond relived that I have finally finished this project, the projects always tends to drain me when I'm nearing the end, because I'm desperate to finish, as my patience is starting to ware of.

The next thing that's on the to-do-list is write that review of University of Westminster, perhaps updating a review on AUCB as I revisited that yesterday with Daisy. We had such a nice day together, her Dad took us there, really nice guy he's in the creative industry himself so there was loads to talk about, even though we attend the morning sessions I didn't get home till 7 pm as we ended up at TGI Friday for a late lunch, they were desperate for food!
I will also be starting to brainstorm ideas for my Final Major Project tomorrow as I will be starting to write the brief on Friday! Scary and exciting at the same time!

Hope you have a great week!
